My life as an entrepreneur got 100x better when I unlearned everything I knew about managing and incentivizing a team.
Because most of it isn't true.
You don't NEED managers to have a productive team.
You don't NEED accountability checks to keep your team on track.
You don't NEED to be doing extra things to keep up morale.
All are designed to keep us micromanaging babies.
Instead, I'm embracing these simple truths:
• You have to align your team's incentives with your own if you want them to make the decisions that you would.
• If their pay isn't aligned with results, you'll never get the best work.
• If you treat your team like grown-ups and give them autonomy, they'll act like grown-ups. If you micromanage their every move, they'll be kids forever.
Once we made the shift in Digifianz, we were able to grow faster than ever and without having to be on our team's asses all the time.
It's the only way to get results and stay sane while running a service business.
